Aesthetica Celebrates its 10th Anniversary Out Now

This December, Aesthetica Magazine – one of the most recognised and important art and culture publications both in the UK and internationally – celebrates its 10th anniversary with a spectacular 50th issue, available worldwide from 1 December. Founded in 2002 by Cherie Federico and Dale Donley when both were university students, the publication has achieved a remarkable feat, growing in stature and readership through one of the most challenging economic periods in recent history. A major success story for publishing, it has the distinction of being the only British art magazine to start and be sustained within the past decade.

Now with an audience of over 140,000 across 20 countries, Aesthetica engages with the best in contemporary art, design, photography, film, music and performance, and works closely and consistently with many of the world’s leading arts organisations – National Gallery, ICA, the Royal Academy, Pompidou Centre, MCA Chicago and many more – and brands at the forefront of style and design such as Chanel, Paul Smith and NET-A-PORTER.

Distributed at the world’s most prominent art fairs and events, and in galleries, cultural venues and museums worldwide, Aesthetica is also stocked in WH Smith stores across the UK. The magazine’s anniversary edition will be WH Smith’s recommended art title, enhancing its strong presence further still.

In a decade that has seen many art magazines move into digital publishing or close entirely, the expansion of Aesthetica as a printed publication is an extraordinary achievement; a testament to both the vision of its creators and the continuing quality of its content. Recognised as a publication of national excellence and achievement by the Royal Society of the Arts in 2008, Aesthetica was described only last month as “one of the relatively few serious arts publications flourishing outside London” by The Guardian.

The success of Aesthetica is due, in no small part, to the emphasis it places upon reporting on the world’s most renowned and established artists. Additionally, the company is committed to supporting emerging talent through a range of initiatives, including the hugely successful Aesthetica Short Film Festival (ASFF), and the Aesthetica Art Prize, which will present its first major exhibition in March 2013.

Editor Cherie Federico says: “The past 10 years have been an incredible journey; it’s hard to believe that a decade has passed since we sat down and started planning exactly what we wanted our magazine to be. I still learn something new every day, and this is what I thrive on, so I’d like to thank our readers and, of course, our fantastic team for their input. I strongly believe in what Aesthetica stands for, both as a business and as a key part of the international art dialogue, and it is with great anticipation that I approach the next 10 years.”
