Aesthetica Art Prize Exhibition, York St Mary’s

The Aesthetica Art Prize exhibition is a dynamic display of innovative artworks from artists all over the world, spanning genres from painting to drawing, video to installation and three dimensional design to sculpture. Running until 22 June, the Art Prize exhibition presents an opportunity to engage with today’s leading contemporary artists in a major group show.

Main Prize winner Sybille Neumeyer presents her mesmerising light installation, Song For the Last Queen, within the group exhibition that also features Student Prize Winner Harriet Lewars, Frustum Super Planum Cum Filia Lyrae (2013); Elke Finkenauer, Draw a Line Somewhere (2012); Deb Covell, Black and White Paintings (2013); Amedeo Abello & Federico Morando, LIFE/FILE (2013); Inés Molina Navea, 541 días (2013); Ingrid Hu, Longplayer (2013), and Julia Weißenberg, There is no real way of knowing (2013).

The medieval backdrop of York St Mary’s provides an exceptional setting for the exhibition, introducing a new conversation between the historic and the contemporary. Relevant and inspiring, the works on display provoke a series of questions and open up a debate – from playing with form to questioning the boundaries of each medium and merging the worlds of art and science to stimulate discussion on social, environmental and historical issues.

Aesthetica Art Prize exhibition, until 22 June, York St Mary’s, Castlegate, York, YO1 9RN. Open daily from 10am – 5pm, free admission.
